How to tie it
Put about 15 wraps of.015 lead on the shank. Attach fluorescent-pink thread and wrap back over the lead to secure it.
Tie a piece of small gold wire in on the far side of the hook and wrap back behind the lead.
Tie a strand of black Flashabou down the center top of the shank as a dorsal 'bloodline,' running the length of the body.
Dub a lot of rainbow sow/scud dubbing onto the thread (not too tight) and wrap a full, shaggy body forward (you may need to reload the thread); don't crowd the eye, since there is no bead.
Squeeze the lead wraps flat with hemostats to give the fly a flat sow-bug profile.
Pull the black Flashabou forward over the top, tie it off behind the eye with a few wraps, and half-hitch.
Rib forward with four or five evenly spaced wraps of the gold wire over the top for segmentation and durability; tie off (the pink thread makes a small hot-spot at the head).
Half-hitch, keeping the thread attached. Brush out the dubbing on both sides with Velcro to create legs, then stretch the fibers down and trim them flat and even to about two shank-lengths wide, squaring the underside. Finish the thread wraps and tie off.
