How to tie it
Slide the 2.3mm Plummeting Tungsten Bead onto the size 14 hook and start the camel thread behind it.
Tie in several fibers of Whiting Coq De Leon at the back of the shank for the tail.
Moisten four or five fibers of gold Speckled Flashabou so they stick together, bind them in at the front of the fly, and wrap the thread back over them to the rear, leaving them hanging.
Burn the end of the small rust Vinyl Rib, squeeze the melted tip flat, and trim that flat part to a point — that is the trick to tying this material in at the very back of the hook with no bulk at all.
Wrap the thread forward in a slight taper up to the bead so the body has an even ramp to climb.
Wrap the Speckled Flashabou forward as the underbody, tie it off, and set it with a touch of thin super glue so it cannot slip when the vinyl goes over it.
Wrap the Vinyl Rib forward with the flat face against the shank so the round side shows, stretching it slightly and releasing the tension near the front to open out the taper; the mottled gold shows through between the turns.
Wrap the thread back to about the two-thirds point, cut eight fibers of Speckled Flashabou in half and tie them in doubled over as the wing case.
Dub a tight, tidy thorax of tan Hare'e Ice Dub up to the back of the bead, adding one more pinch behind the bead to fill any gap.
Pull the wing case forward over the thorax, rocking it side to side to flatten it out, and bind it behind the bead.
Split three fibers to each side as legs, reaching just past the wing case, trim the remainder and whip finish.
Add a dollop of UV resin over the top of the wing case, cure it, and put on one more coat.
