Classic Recipe
Hook Spey iron or classic salmon hook (e.g. Alec Jackson Spey), 3-5
Thread Red (head), fine GSP for tying 30 denier GSP / 8/0
Materials
Tip Flat silver tinsel (1)
Tail Golden Pheasant Crest (1)
Rib Silver mylar/oval tinsel (1)
Body Rust-orange floss (1)
Body hackle Yellow cock or golden pheasant hackle, palmered (1)
Collar Teal flank (1)
Wing Four hot-orange hackle tips, tented (4)
How to tie it
Wrap a short flat silver tinsel tip above the barb and tie in a golden pheasant crest tail curving up.
Tie in the silver rib and the yellow body hackle by its tip at the bend.
Wrap a slim, smooth body of rust-orange floss over the rear two-thirds of the shank. Glasso's flies were famously slender, so keep thread bumps to a minimum.
Spiral the rib forward in 4-5 evenly spaced turns, then palmer the yellow hackle forward alongside it, letting the long fibers flow back.
Take 1-2 turns of teal flank as a collar at the front.
Tie in four hot-orange hackle tips as a low, tented wing over the body, then build a small bright red head and whip finish.
