Egg · Salmon/Steelhead · Steelhead · Salmon · Trout · Beginner · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank egg/scud hook, 8-14
  • Thread Red or clear mono 8/0

Materials

  • Egg yarn (McFlylon/Otter's Soft Milking type) Egg color with contrasting dot (e.g. apricot with a red or orange dot) (one small clump plus a pinch for the dot)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the midpoint of the shank and take a few wraps forward and back to build a base.
  2. Center a small clump of egg yarn on top of the hook over the thorax and secure with tight wraps so it flares up.
  3. Add a small pinch of contrasting-color yarn on top for the milking dot and lock it down at the same point.
  4. Gather the yarn upright, whip finish underneath, then trim the yarn into a round egg shape around the tie-in point.
