How to tie it
Start 12/0 thread where the return eye ends, that is the balance line where the body will meet the head, and lay a base along the shank. Fold.020 lead wire in half, bind it under the shank, flatten it with pliers and cement.
Bind doubled small copper wire in at the rear and twist it with a shepherd's hook tool.
Spin brown Ice Dub in a split thread, brush it out and wrap the body forward, then whip finish and brush again.
Prepare the rabbit strip, hide trimmed flush and thinned with curved scissors, cut on a taper with the fur pushed aside. And tie it in by the tip in front of the dubbing at twice the length of the dubbed body.
Pull the strip tight over the body, part the fur down to the reserved rear thread and bind the hide to the bare hook there, then rib the wing matuka style with the twisted copper.
Spin natural fox fur in a split thread as a collar, add cock hackle tips on each side, a yellow and orange rabbit throat and two dyed olive grizzly marabou tips as gills, then park them all with a turn of lead wire.
Spin a pine squirrel zonker strip in a split thread and wrap it all the way to the eye as the head, pulling the fibers back with each turn, then whip finish, cement, remove the lead wire and brush the fly out.
