Slim Rib Ninja Midge

Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Tiemco 2488 (short-shank curved midge/emerger hook), #18-22
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Abdomen Black slim (One strand of black Slim Rib)
  • Wing White/pearl glamour madeira (3 split strands of Glamour Madeira)
  • Thorax Natural herl (1-2 peacock herls)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start black 8/0 thread just behind the eye and wrap a smooth, very thin thread base back to the start of the bend.
  2. Tie in a strand of black Slim Rib at the bend and take the thread forward to the 70% point.
  3. Wrap the Slim Rib forward in touching to slightly open turns to the 70% point so the body shows clean segmentation; tie off and trim.
  4. Split a strand of Glamour Madeira and take three strands; tie them in on top of the shank at the 70% point with the tips pointing back to about the hook point, then trim the forward butts.
  5. Tie in a peacock herl at the front of the wing tie-in.
  6. Wrap three or four turns of peacock forward to build a small thorax, leaving room behind the eye; tie off and trim.
  7. Whip finish a small black head and add a pinhead drop of cement.
