Kingfisher Fly Shop dressing

  • Hook U302, 6

Materials

  • Head Large Gold Brass Cone
  • Lead Wire 025 Lead Wire
  • Rib Glitter D Rib Red
  • Belly Flash DNA White Flash Fiber
  • Flash Flashabou Speckled Copper
  • Overwing Ostrich Herl Olive

How to tie it

  1. Slide a nickel conehead onto the hook, small opening forward. Behind it wrap 12-15 turns of.035 lead and shove them into the back of the cone to jam it tight against the eye.
  2. Start white thread behind the lead and build a smooth base back to the bend.
  3. Tie in red midge tubing (V-Rib) at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns to just behind the cone for a translucent segmented body; tie off and trim.
  4. At the front tie in a generous bunch of silver/white Flashabou over the top as an underwing, reaching about one shank length past the bend.
  5. Add a few strands of pearl Mirage flash over the Flashabou.
  6. Top with a wing of white ostrich herl, a touch shorter than the flash, for breathing movement.
  7. Dub a short collar of UV pearl Ice Dub behind the cone, whip finish against the cone and cement.
