BCFlyguys

  • Hook jig hook
  • Thread red

Materials

  • Bead (head turner bead)
  • Tail Red (fire) (Arizona Simi Seal)
  • Body Red (fire) (Arizona Simi Seal in a dubbing loop)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a head turner bead onto the jig hook and start red thread behind it. Tie a clump of Arizona Simi Seal in at the rear as the tail.
  2. Build a dubbing loop and fill it with the same Simi Seal, then brush the loop out before you spin it. Brushing first frees the long guard fibers so the finished body breathes instead of matting.
  3. Spin the loop, brush it again, then wrap it forward to the bead like a hackle, sweeping the fibers rearward with each turn.
  4. Tie the loop off behind the bead and whip finish.
  5. Brush the whole fly out hard and shape it. You are looking for a teardrop profile, fatter at the head and tapering to the tail.
  6. Tie it in every colour you have. The tyer calls it a go-to for many years and says red is one of his personal favourites.
