Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet, 10-14
  • Thread Yellow 8/0

Materials

  • Tail GP crest (small)
  • Body Flat silver tinsel (smooth)
  • Rib Oval silver (fine)
  • Body hackle Ginger, palmered (sparse)
  • Throat Blue jay (sparse)
  • Wing Hen Pheasant (rolled)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wet hook and start yellow thread. Run it to the bend above the barb.
  2. Tie in a small golden pheasant crest as a tail, curving upward, no longer than a hook gap past the bend.
  3. Bind in fine oval silver rib at the tail, then tie in flat silver tinsel and wind a smooth, even body forward to just short of the eye. Tie off.
  4. Tie in a ginger cock hackle by the tip at the front and palmer it back to the tail in open turns. Sparse, 4-5 turns over the body.
  5. Counter-wind the oval silver rib forward through the palmered hackle to lock it in, then tie off and clip.
  6. Tie in a sparse blue jay throat as a beard beneath the hook, reaching to the point.
  7. Roll a hen pheasant wing slip, set it low over the body tips-back, bind down, form the head, whip finish and cement.
