Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard saltwater hook, 4-8
  • Thread tan 6/0 (140D)

Materials

  • Eyes Silver metal tape (medium bead chain, one pair)
  • Wing Tan carapace (sparse craft fur or bucktail)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Tan carapace (dubbing or EP fibers)
  • Legs Tan/pearl rubber legs (2-3 pairs Sili Legs)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread mid-shank and figure-8 the silver bead chain eyes on top of the shank at the front third, so the fly rides hook-point-up.
  2. At the bend tie in a sparse tan craft-fur wing one shank past the bend, with a few strands of pearl flash over it.
  3. Knot 2-3 pairs of tan Sili Legs and tie them in splayed at the bend, straddling the wing.
  4. Dub a tan body forward to the eyes and figure-8 the dubbing around and in front of them.
  5. Fold a couple of Sili Legs forward alongside the body as swimming legs and secure them.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and cement.
