Reference Recipe
- Hook curved saltwater/scud hook (e.g. TMC 811S or 2457), 6-10
- Thread tan 8/0 (70D)
Materials
- Bead Gold bead (5/32 in, one)
- Antennae Tan/pearl material (few strands Krystal Flash)
- Shellback Clear scud back thin skin (one strip scud back / Thin Skin)
- Body dubbing Tan dubbing (small pinch shrimp/scud dubbing)
- Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire, one length)
How to tie it
- Slide the gold bead to the eye; start thread behind it and build a small dam so the bead seats tight.
- At the hook bend, bind in a few strands of pearl Krystal Flash as antennae, splayed rearward about one shank length.
- Tie in the clear scud-back strip and the copper wire at the bend and leave both hanging.
- Dub a slim, slightly tapered body forward to the bead. Use half the dubbing you think.
- Draw the scud back over the top as a shell and bind it down behind the bead.
- Counter-wrap the wire 5-6 evenly spaced turns to segment the shell and lock it, then helicopter the wire to break it off.
- Pick out dubbing along the underside for legs, whip finish behind the bead, and add a drop of cement.
