Slip a small red glass bead onto a Tiemco 2499SPBL and start white UTC 70 about midway along the shank, near the bend.
Tilt the hook nose-down in the vise so you can work round the bend, then tie in Natural India Hen Back fibres about the length of the straight part of the shank and trim the butts.
Bind a single strand of Black Superhair in along the side and back down the bend, then straighten the hook up and take the thread forward, building a slight taper and leaving plenty of room for the bead.
Counter-wrap the Superhair forward in even spiralling turns and lock it down; if a wrap goes wrong just unravel it and start again, the material takes it.
Tie a strip of medium pearl flashback in right on top of the shank.
Bind in a generous clump of White Fluorofibre, 20 to 30 strands, directly on top of the flashback.
Slide the bead back into the thorax position and take a few wraps in front of it and behind it, then start black Veevus 14/0 at the head.
Pull all the Fluorofibre forward over the top of the bead and lock it down, then bring the flashback over the top as well.
Split the Fluorofibre into two equal halves, one down each side for the legs, and whip finish.
Pull both leg bunches back together and trim them to about the length of the thorax, just a shade longer.
Coat the body, the casing and the underside with thick Loon UV Fly Finish and cure it, adding more where it needs a touch-up.
