How to tie it
Slide a bead onto a #16 scud hook and start dark brown 14/0 thread right behind it.
Tie in a length of brassie gold wire parallel to the near side of the shank and bind it down around the bend, then bring the thread back up a little.
Take eight pheasant tail fibers (six if yours are thick, always an even number, and use the same count for every fly in a batch) and tie them in by the TIPS at the rear.
Wrap all eight fibers together forward up the shank, avoiding catching them on the hook point, ending right behind the bead; secure with a couple of thread wraps and bind the butts down.
Counter-wrap the gold wire forward in seven evenly spaced turns to just behind the bead, secure with the thread, and clip the excess with fingernail clippers.
Straighten a length of crinkled white Zelon with a pull, tie it in behind the bead with a couple of wraps, fold the front portion back over itself and wrap the thread over the fold; trim the wing to about a hook-gap long.
Dub a short collar of peacock Wapsi Super Bright right behind the bead.
Whip finish and cut the thread; clip off any wayward dubbing fibers.
