Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry, 10-14
  • Thread Orange or olive 8/0

Materials

  • Breathers White Antron, both ends (tufts)
  • Body Orange-brown dubbing (slim)
  • Rib Pearl tinsel (spiral)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start orange (or olive) thread mid-shank. Wind back to above the barb.
  2. Tie in a short stub of white Antron at the bend as the rear breather, angled back and no longer than a hook gap. Trim square.
  3. Bind in pearl tinsel at the tail, then dub a slim, slightly tapered orange-brown body forward, stopping one eye-length short of the eye.
  4. Spiral the pearl rib forward over the body in 5-6 open, even turns and tie off. This is the segmentation.
  5. Tie in a second short white Antron stub at the front as the head breather, pointing forward over the eye. Keep both tufts tiny. Half what you think.
  6. Trim the front breather to a hook-gap stub, build a small head, whip finish and add a touch of cement.
