Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard-length saltwater hook, 1/0-4
  • Thread White 3/0

Materials

  • Tail White bucktail + 2-4 white/olive saddle hackles (1 clump + feathers)
  • Flash Pearl and olive Krystal Flash (1 small bunch)
  • Belly White bucktail (1 clump)
  • Back Olive or gray bucktail (1 clump)
  • Lateral line Pearl/silver flashabou (few strands)
  • Eyes Stick-on 3D silver (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the 70% mark and run a base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a sparse white bucktail tail flanked by two to four white/olive saddle hackles about two shank lengths long, keeping it slim and translucent like a silverside.
  3. Add a few strands of pearl flash along the tail.
  4. At the front tie a sparse clump of white bucktail below the shank for the belly, then a thinner clump of olive or gray bucktail on top for the back, keeping the whole fly slender.
  5. Lay a couple of strands of pearl Flashabou along each side as the lateral line.
  6. Build a smooth thread head, whip finish, and cement.
  7. Set stick-on eyes and coat the head with epoxy or UV resin for a durable, translucent finish.
