Classic Recipe

  • Hook stout popper/bass hook (humped shank), 2-10
  • Thread white or to match 3/0

Materials

  • Head Cork or foam popper head, painted blue with scale pattern (1)
  • Eyes Large stick-on/painted eyes (1 pair)
  • Tail Saddle hackle feathers (2-4)
  • Collar Hackle collar (1)
  • Legs Rubber legs (several)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the popper hook, lay a thread base on the rear shank and tie in 2-4 splayed saddle hackles for the tail about a body length long.
  2. Wind a hackle collar in front of the tail for a soft, water-pushing skirt.
  3. Add several rubber legs at the collar, splayed to the sides.
  4. Glue the pre-shaped blue popper head (cork or foam) onto the front of the shank, cupped face forward.
  5. Set and glue the large eyes on the sides of the head.
  6. Whip finish behind the head where thread meets the body; seal the thread with head cement.
