Reference Recipe

  • Hook Articulated shank trailing a short-shank stinger hook on braid, Shank 25-40mm + short stinger hook
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Shank Black shank (1)
  • Stinger hook (1, on 20-30 lb braid loop)
  • Tail Marabou (color to taste) (1-2 plumes)
  • Flash Krystal Flash / Flashabou (1 small bunch)
  • Body Peacock herl or Ice Dub (few strands)
  • Collar hackle Schlappen or marabou (1-2 feathers)
  • Cone Cross-eyed / offset cone (1)

How to tie it

  1. Run a braid loop through the shank and back, trapping the stinger hook so it rides point-up a short reach behind the shank, and bind the tag ends down.
  2. Slide the offset (cross) cone onto the front of the shank and hold it back for now.
  3. Start thread at the rear of the shank and tie in a marabou plume for the tail, about one shank length long, then add flash to each side.
  4. Twist a few strands of peacock herl or Ice Dub into a rope and wrap a slim body forward, leaving room at the front.
  5. Tie in a schlappen or marabou feather and take 2-3 wet turns as a sweeping collar, then stroke the fibers back over the body.
  6. Push the cone back over the collar to seat it and build a thread dam behind the eye to lock it.
  7. Whip finish in front of the cone, snip, and add a drop of cement.
