Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet fly / spider hook, 13-14
  • Thread Green silk 8/0

Materials

  • Silk Ivy-green silk (full body)
  • Body Ivy-green silk dubbed with a little hare's face fur (shank)
  • Hackle Middle-dun or blue cock's or hen's hackle (1-2 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Run the ivy-green silk from behind the eye to above the barb and back to the two-thirds mark.
  2. Twist a little hare's-face fur onto the green silk and dub a slim body, letting the green show through.
  3. Tie in a middle-dun (or blue) cock or hen hackle by the tip at the two-thirds mark.
  4. Take one or two sparse turns of hackle and secure with the silk.
  5. Stroke the fibres back, build a small head, whip finish and varnish.
