Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard nymph/wet-fly hook (Daiichi 1260 or TMC 2312), 10-14
  • Thread Reddish brown 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Hungarian partridge + orange Krystal Flash (few fibers + 1-2 strands)
  • Rib Brown Pearsall's silk (1 strand)
  • Body dubbing Yellow or amber rabbit/Zelon (1 pinch)
  • Underwing Gold or yellow Krystal Flash (2-3 strands)
  • Hackle Hungarian partridge (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the 75% mark and run a base to the bend.
  2. At the bend tie in a short tail of a few partridge fibers plus a strand or two of orange Krystal Flash, about a half shank long.
  3. Bind in the brown silk rib at the bend.
  4. Dub a slim amber body forward to the 75% mark, then spiral the silk rib over it in 5-6 even turns and tie off.
  5. Lay a few strands of gold Krystal Flash over the top as a short flashy underwing to the hook point.
  6. Tie in a partridge feather by the tip and take 2 turns as a soft, sweeping wet-fly collar, then stroke the fibers back.
  7. Build a small head, whip finish, snip, and add a drop of cement.
