Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet or scud hook, 6-10
  • Thread Fl. pink or chartreuse 6/0

Materials

  • Eyes Bead chain, silver (1 pair)
  • Body Silver tinsel or diamond braid (smooth)
  • Wing/tail White or chartreuse calf/marabou (sparse)
  • Hot spot Fl. pink or orange thread head (built up)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wet or scud hook and lash a pair of silver bead-chain eyes on top near the eye. Start fluorescent pink or chartreuse thread.
  2. Wrap back to the bend and tie in a sparse white or chartreuse calf-tail or marabou wing/tail, about one and a half shank lengths long.
  3. Tie in silver tinsel or diamond braid and wrap a smooth, bright body forward to the eyes.
  4. Figure-8 the thread around the bead-chain eyes to lock them.
  5. Build up a bright fluorescent-pink or orange thread head. The hot glowing spot is the strike trigger.
  6. Whip finish and coat the head with cement or UV resin.
