How to tie it
Start fluorescent yellow 6/0 thread and run a base along the shank to the bend.
Tie in a short piece of green UV Cheeky at the rear and wrap a small bright butt/tag section.
Tie in a small bunch of golden pheasant tippets on top for the tail, keeping the barred tips aligned; half-hitch to hold everything.
Dub light olive kapok onto the thread, mix the short fibers in your fingers to avoid lumps and keep the dub LOOSE and fuzzy rather than compressed; the loft is what floats the fly.
Wrap the body from the front back and then forward again (or use the rotary function), leaving the bright butt exposed at the rear, and clean off any excess dubbing.
Take a generous tuft of white calf tail from the lower part of the patch (shorter, straighter fibers), pull out the long fibers and clean the underfur/junk from the butts, and tie it in as a downswept Trude wing reaching to about the end of the tail; take good firm turns and cut the butts at an angle.
Run a little head cement down into the wing butts, calf tail is slippery and this locks it in, and wrap over the trimmed butts to build a tapered base.
Tie in the brown dry fly saddle hackle dull side forward and take about four turns, leaving a little spacing so the yellow thread shows through.
Tie off, whip finish, and finish the head with cement.
