  • Hook Jig nymph hook, 14-18
  • Thread Hot orange 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold bead (1)
  • Lead-free wire Silver lead free wire (6-8 turns)
  • Tail Coq de Leon or pheasant tail fibers (few fibers)
  • Abdomen dubbing Natural hare's mask (1 pinch)
  • Rib Small gold wire (1 strand)
  • Flashback Pearl mylar (1 strip)
  • Thorax dubbing Coarse guard-hair hare's ear (1 pinch)
  • Hot spot Fluoro orange thread (few wraps)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead against the jig eye and add wire wraps behind it to weight the fly and lock the bead.
  2. Start thread and tie in a short tail of Coq de Leon a half shank long at the bend.
  3. Bind in the gold rib and a strip of pearl mylar at the tail.
  4. Dub a slim hare's-ear abdomen forward to the 60% mark, then rib it with 5-6 open counter-wraps of gold wire and tie off.
  5. Pull the mylar forward over the abdomen as a flashback and bind at the 60% mark.
  6. Dub a fatter, deliberately scruffy guard-hair thorax up to the bead and pick it out with a bodkin so it bristles like legs.
  7. Wrap a hot-spot collar of fluoro thread against the bead, whip finish, snip, and cement.
