Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL curved caddis/pupa hook, 6-10
  • Thread orange 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Gold or black bead (1 (to fit hook))
  • Dubbing Orange/amber dubbing (for abdomen)
  • Dubbing Dark brown dubbing (for thorax)
  • Wire Copper wire (1 length)
  • Partridge or hen hackle Brown hen hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a tungsten bead to the eye, lock the hook in, and tie in the wire rib at the bend.
  2. Dub a plump orange/amber abdomen forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Counter-rib forward with the wire in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  4. Dub a dark-brown thorax collar behind the bead.
  5. Tie in a brown partridge or hen soft hackle and take 2 turns for legs; sweep the fibers back and lock them.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
