  • Thread black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Gold bead Gold bead (1 (optional))
  • Marabou Black/olive/claret marabou (1 tail plume)

How to tie it

  1. Optional: slide a gold bead to the eye. Lock the hook in and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a marabou tail one shank long, with a couple of flash strands each side.
  3. Tie in a webby hackle by its tip at the bend, then load the thread with spiky seal's fur (or a seal substitute).
  4. Wrap the shaggy dubbed body forward to the eye or bead.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward through the body in 5-6 open turns and tie off; then pick out the dubbing so it bristles and traps light and air.
  6. Whip finish and cement.
