How to tie it
- Slide a brown/gold cone to the eye (weight plus a sculpin's blunt head), lock the hook in, and lay a thread base to the bend.
- Tie in an olive or brown marabou tail one shank long, with a couple of flash strands each side.
- Tie in a webby hackle by its tip and a length of variegated chenille at the bend.
- Wrap the chenille forward to the cone, then palmer the hackle back through it in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
- Optional: spin a small clump of deer hair behind the cone and trim it flat for a fuller sculpin head.
- Whip finish behind the cone and cement.
