Scud back / thin skin Clear scud back thin skin (1 strip)
Wire Gold wire (fine, 1 length)
How to tie it
Push a slotted tungsten bead to the eye of a curved or jig hook, then wrap 8-10 turns of lead-free wire behind it and jam them up into the bead. This is the 'bomb' that drops the fly fast.
Lay a thread base over the lead and tie in the wire rib and a scud-back strip at the bend.
Dub a fat, humped body forward over the lead underbody to the bead.
Pull the shellback over the top and bind it behind the bead.
Rib forward with the wire in 5-6 open counter-wraps and break off the tag.
Brush out the belly dubbing for legs, whip finish, and cement.
