Scud Beauty-Beadhead
Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook curved scud/pupa (e.g. TMC 2457), 12-18
- Thread tan 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Gold bead Gold bead (1 (to fit hook))
- Scud dubbing Tan/olive scud dubbing (small amount)
- Antron Tan antron (short tuft (tail))
- Scud back / thin skin Clear scud back thin skin (1 strip)
- Wire Gold wire (fine, 1 length)
How to tie it
- Slide a gold bead to the eye, lock the hook in, and lay a thread base. Tie in the wire rib and a strip of clear scud back at the bend.
- Add a short pinch of Antron for a tail no longer than one hook gap.
- Dub a plump, humped body forward to the bead. Scuds are fattest in the middle, so build the belly out there.
- Pull the shellback tightly over the top and bind it down behind the bead.
- Counter-wrap the wire forward in 5-6 open turns to segment the body and lock the shellback; helicopter off the tag.
- Pick out the dubbing along the underside for legs, whip finish behind the bead, and cement.
