Reference Recipe

  • Hook streamer (Daiichi 2546 salt), 1-4
  • Thread olive GSP 100 / 210 denier

Materials

  • Rabbit strip (Zonker) Olive or brown rabbit strip (1 strip (tail) + 1 (body))
  • Flashabou Copper/holographic flashabou (6 strands)
  • Grizzly schlappen Olive schlappen or saddle hackle (1 feather)
  • Mallard flank Natural mallard flank (1 feather)
  • Silli legs Barred olive rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • Grizzly hackle tips Olive hackle (1 pair)
  • Magnum rabbit dubbing Olive/tan body dubbing (for spun head)

How to tie it

  1. Lock the hook in and lay a thread base to the bend. Tie in a rabbit-strip tail one shank long, with a few strands of flash each side.
  2. Tie in a second rabbit strip by the leather at the bend and palmer it forward to the 60% mark, stroking fibers back each turn; tie off.
  3. Figure-8 two pairs of silli legs at 60% so they splay to the sides.
  4. Tie in a grizzly schlappen feather and wrap 3-4 turns for a webby collar, then a mallard flank feather for 2 turns; sweep both back.
  5. Tie a pair of grizzly hackle tips flat along each side as pectoral fins.
  6. Spin two or three clumps of magnum rabbit fur in a dubbing loop just behind the eye, packing each tight for a bulky head.
  7. Whip finish at the eye, then trim the spun-fur head to a broad, flat sculpin wedge. Wide and flat on the bottom, tapering back. Cement the thread.
