Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2x long dry, 8-14

Materials

  • Wing post White calf body (upright)
  • Body Tan poly dubbing (full)
  • Underwing Mottled turkey, lacquered (flat, to bend)
  • Legs Knotted pheasant tail (1 pair)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (parachute)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the 2x-long hook and tie in an upright white calf-body wing post at the thorax, standing it up with thread wraps around the base.
  2. Wrap back to the bend and dub a full tan poly body forward to the post.
  3. Tie in a section of mottled turkey (lacquered for durability) flat over the back, reaching to the bend as an underwing.
  4. Tie in a knotted pheasant-tail leg on each side, kicking back and down. These jointed legs are the trigger.
  5. Tie in a grizzly hackle at the base of the post and take several turns around the post, parachute-style, working downward.
  6. Secure the hackle and whip finish around the base of the post so the wraps don't crush the hackle, then cement the post base.
