How to tie it
Rear hook: secure the Umpqua flats hook (size 4) and start GSP 50 thread; wrap a smooth base to about the midpoint of the shank.
Tie in about 10 strands of gold Flashabou at the midpoint, fold it back over itself and bind down, keeping the wraps to roughly the halfway point.
Tie a pre-stripped schlappen feather to each side for a split tail, about a pinky-length long, laying them flat against the hook bend so the two tails splay apart; trim the gold flash to the length of the tails.
Advance the thread forward, trim the tail stems, then work back to mid-shank. Tie in a second schlappen by its tip along with a strand of copper UV polar chenille, then carry the thread up to the eye.
Form a complex twist: pull the schlappen and chenille together, lay flash on top, spin with a dubbing tool to blend the feather and flash, brush out the fibers, then wrap the twisted rope forward to the eye, stroking fibers back so none are trapped.
Make a few locking wraps, brush the body out, whip finish and add a drop of Zap-A-Gap. The rear hook is complete.
Front hook: secure the Ahrex bent streamer (size 1). Run a large intruder wire through the rear hook's eye and thread on two Killer Caddis beads.
Start thread and bind the wire on top of the front hook with an under-and-over method (about 10 wraps beneath, lay it back, then wrap over) up the shank; leave a short gap of wire so the rear hook articulates without fouling. Trim, cover the wire tips, and wrap tightly back to the bend.
At the bend, tie the soft butt section of a schlappen feather to each side to hide the wire junction.
Tie in a schlappen tip and copper UV polar chenille and build another complex twist forward to about the halfway point.
Tie in a marabou plume by the tip and palmer it forward, stroking the fibers back with each wrap.
Seat a foam popper head at the front (rest it on the shank to gauge how much body to leave), secure it, whip finish behind the head and cement.
