Classic Recipe

• Hook Standard wet fly, 10-14
• Thread Red 8/0

Materials

• Tag Flat gold tinsel (2 turns)
• Tail Red hackle fibers (short)
• Body Peacock herl (or red floss) (3 strands)
• Hackle Scarlet-dyed hen hackle (1)

How to tie it

1. Wrap a short gold tag and tie in the red tail at the bend.
2. Wrap a twisted peacock herl body to the 80% mark; red floss ribbed gold makes the brighter variant.
3. Wind 2-3 turns of soft scarlet hen hackle.
4. Sweep back and whip finish a red head.
