Start tan 52 denier thread and run a base back to the start of the bend. No tail.
Wax the thread lightly, spin a very thin, short noodle of tan superfine, and dub the back half to two-thirds of the shank.
Cord the thread clockwise, then tie in two small cream hackle tips over the body with a pinch wrap and two turns; check that they sit on top.
If the tips roll around the shank, back off, bring them back on top and re-secure. Take the time to get them sitting downswept over the body with a slight splay. If they don't splay on their own, pull them apart and figure-eight between them.
Push the wing butts up with your thumb and take a few extra wraps to flatten the area in front of the wings.
Tie in the light brown (barred ginger) hackle and take as many wraps as you can fit without crowding the eye, four or five.
Tie the hackle off, snip the excess, and take a few wraps to flatten the head.
Whip finish, clean up any stray barbs, and add head cement if you want it. The tyer often fishes it as is.
