How to tie it
Catch a length of fine copper wire onto the hook near the eye and spiral it back to the bend, then leave it hanging (the wire replaces thread entirely).
Select four to six cock pheasant tail fibers, align the tips, and tie them in at the bend with the wire so a short tuft of tips projects past the bend as the tail, no longer than half a shank-length.
Twist the pheasant fibers and the copper wire loosely together to form a rope.
Wind the pheasant/wire rope forward to build a slim tapered abdomen up to the thorax area.
Wind the wire alone forward to the eye, then wind it back to the thorax to create a base, and bring the pheasant fibers forward over the top and back again to form a bulge of wing case and thorax.
Tie off the pheasant fibers with the wire, take a few securing wire turns, and twist off the excess wire; no legs or hackle are added.
Form a small head with the wire and secure with a couple of tight turns, then snap off the wire.
