Baitfish · Striped Bass · Bluefish · False Albacore · Jack · Tarpon · Snook · Redfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook saltwater stainless, 1/0-3/0
  • Thread white flat waxed nylon

Materials

  • Bucktail or craft fur (belly/tail) White bucktail (full clump)
  • Flash Pearl/silver flashabou (10+ strands)
  • Bucktail or synthetic (back) Gray-brown bucktail or synthetic (1 clump)
  • Dubbing or brushed body White laser dub (as needed)
  • Stick-on eyes Large (1 pair)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base at mid-shank and tie in a full white bucktail tail and belly. A mullet is a broad, deep baitfish.
  2. Add pearl flash, then a gray-brown bucktail or synthetic wing over the top.
  3. Build body bulk with dubbing or stacked craft fur into a deep, blunt forebody tapering to the tail.
  4. Set large stick-on eyes on the sides of the head.
  5. Coat the head with UV resin, embedding the eyes, and cure.
  6. Bar the back and add a dark shoulder spot with a permanent marker to mimic a mullet, then seal with a light UV coat and cure.
