Start the hot orange thread leaving a small gap behind the eye and build a thread base to lay the eyes on.
Bind the medium lead dumbbell eyes on top of the shank with X wraps and under wraps, then take the thread back to the bend and lock the wraps with UV resin or super glue.
Pull a small pinch of Orange Ice Dub and pull it apart in your fingers several times to align the fibers. Tie it in by its center on the near side of the shank angling downward, then fold the other half down on the far side and bind it in.
Clip two rubber legs and tie them in on either side of the shank, hard up against the bump of dubbing so they splay outward as feelers. Snip the waste and clean up the wraps.
Cut three short sections of Cream Ultra Chenille and burn each tip to a point.
Turn the hook point up, lay the first chenille section across the shank and X wrap over it, pulling it through until about half a shank length sticks out the far side, then wrap against it to sweep both ends rearward.
Bring the thread back about halfway and seat the second chenille leg the same way, then bring it up against the lead eyes for the third. Trim the near-side legs to match the far side and burn those tips too.
Pull apart a clump of gray Laser Dub to align the fibers, cut it into thirds and distribute it evenly in a dubbing loop, then twist, brush it out with a stiff toothbrush and pick it apart.
Turn the hook point down and wrap the dubbing loop forward in tight touching turns, snugging it against the chenille legs and weaving through them, repositioning each leg as you pass it, until you reach the dumbbell eyes. Tie off, snip the waste, pick out the body and trim it back so it is not too bushy.
Pick a mallard flank feather curved the right way for the top wing, measure it against the hook, strip the excess fibers off the base and snip the tip so it forms a V.
Brush a drop of flexible UV resin into the feather with your finger and cure it, then tie it in flat on top of the hook with the point split evenly and trim the stem.
Whip finish, cement the head and trim the front legs to length.
