Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL curved scud/pupa hook, 12-16
  • Thread brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead (optional) Gold bead (1)
  • Sparkle/Antron dubbing (abdomen) Caddis green or tan (1 rope)
  • Ultra Wire (rib) Brown fine wire (1 length)
  • Dubbing (thorax) Dark brown dubbing (small pinch)
  • Hungarian partridge (legs) Natural partridge (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Optional bead to the eye; start thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a length of fine brown wire at the bend for the rib.
  3. Dub a plump, tapered abdomen of green (or tan) sparkle dubbing forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Counter-wrap the wire forward in 5-6 open turns for a segmented, buggy abdomen, then tie off.
  5. Dub a darker, slightly fatter thorax collar behind the bead.
  6. Tie in a partridge feather by the tip and take one or two turns for a soft hackle, then sweep the fibers down and back.
  7. Pinch the fibers under the thorax, build a small head, whip finish and cement.
