Reference Recipe

• Hook long-shank dry (TMC 5212), 6-8 (3XL)
• Thread orange 6/0

Materials

• Foam strip (2mm) Orange foam strip (1 strip)
• Antron dubbing (abdomen) Burnt orange (1 rope)
• Elk hair (wings) Natural deer hair (2 clumps)
• Round rubber legs Orange/brown rubber legs (4 strands)
• Saddle hackle Brown grizzly hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

1. Lay a thread base and tie in an orange foam strip at the rear.
2. Dub a fat orange abdomen forward to mid-shank, then pull the foam over and rib with thread bands for segmentation.
3. Stack a clump of elk hair and tie it flat over the body as a lower wing, tips reaching the bend.
4. Set a second elk hair wing angled up and splayed off the back so it sits partway upright. The 'half cocked' look that mimics wings mid-flap.
5. Tie long orange/brown rubber legs, two per side, trailing well past the bend.
6. Palmer a brown grizzly hackle heavily through the thorax for a bushy, high-riding footprint.
7. Build a small dubbed head, whip finish, and cement.
