  • Hook long-shank dry (TMC 5212), 4-8 (3XL)
  • Thread orange 6/0

Materials

  • Antron dubbing (egg sac) Black dubbing (small tight ball)
  • Foam strip (2mm) Orange foam strip (1 strip)
  • Antron dubbing (abdomen) Burnt orange (1 rope)
  • Elk hair (wing) Natural deer hair (1 clump)
  • Round rubber legs Brown silly legs nymph size (2 strands)
  • Saddle hackle Brown saddle hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Cover the shank and, at the very rear, dub a tight black antron ball for the egg sac. The egg-layer's trigger.
  2. Tie in an orange foam strip just ahead of the egg sac.
  3. Dub a fat orange abdomen forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Pull the foam forward over the top and segment the abdomen with 3-4 tight thread bands.
  5. Tie in a stacked elk hair wing at 70%, tips reaching the bend.
  6. Figure-8 brown rubber legs on each side of the wing base.
  7. Palmer a brown hackle 4-5 turns through the thorax and trim.
  8. Fold the remaining foam over as a head, whip finish, trim the stub, and cement.
