• Hook standard nymph (TMC 100 or 2488), 18-22
• Thread black 8/0

Materials

• Tungsten bead Black bead (1)
• Coq de Leon fibers (tail) Natural speckled coq de leon fibers (small clump)
• Ultra Wire (rib) Silver wire (1 length, small)
• Flashabou (wing case) Pearl or Mirage (3-4 strands)

How to tie it

1. Slide a black tungsten bead to the eye and start black thread behind it.
2. Tie in a short clump of Coq de Leon fibers at the bend, slightly splayed, tail about half a shank.
3. Bind in a length of small silver wire at the tail and leave it hanging.
4. Build a slim, smooth abdomen of black thread only, no dubbing, tapering slightly forward to the thorax.
5. Counter-wrap the silver wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns for a bright segmented rib, then helicopter it off to break rather than cutting.
6. Tie in 3-4 strands of pearl or Mirage flash pointing back over the thorax, then build a small black thread thorax against the bead.
7. Pull the flash forward over the thorax and bind it behind the bead as a shiny wing case.
8. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of head cement.
