Reference Recipe

  • Hook articulated pair, rear TMC 5262, front streamer hook, joined by wire, 4 (rear and front)
  • Thread olive 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Tungsten cone Copper bead (1, large)
  • Marabou Olive marabou (2 plumes)
  • Flashabou Copper flashabou (6-8 strands)
  • UV polar chenille Olive uv straggle chenille mm (1 length)
  • Saddle/schlappen hackle Olive schlappen or saddle hackle (2 feathers)
  • Articulation wire and beads n/a (1 loop + 1-2 beads)

How to tie it

  1. Rear hook: start thread and tie in a full olive marabou tail one shank length, framed by a few strands of copper Flashabou.
  2. At the tail base tie in a saddle hackle by the tip and a length of olive UV polar chenille.
  3. Wrap the polar chenille forward to behind the eye, palmer the hackle through it in 5-6 open turns, tie off and whip finish the rear hook.
  4. Front hook: slide the copper cone to the eye, then lash a doubled loop of articulation wire (strung with a bead or two) to the shank so the rear hook rides one gap behind.
  5. Bind the wire hard down the shank and add a drop of cement. This joint takes all the abuse.
  6. Tie in a fresh schlappen hackle and a length of olive polar chenille at the rear of the front shank.
  7. Wrap the chenille forward and palmer the hackle through it, stroking all fibers rearward as you go.
  8. Seat everything tight behind the cone, whip finish against the cone, and cement.
