Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, #14-20
  • Thread rusty brown 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibetts (tails) Dun microfibetts (2-3 fibers)
  • Superfine dubbing (body) Rusty brown (pinch)
  • Poly yarn (parachute post) White or hi-vis (small clump)
  • Rooster hackle Dun or grizzly rooster hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base to the bend and tie in 2-3 Microfibett tails, splitting them wide into a V one shank length long.
  2. Post a small clump of white poly yarn upright at the 65% mark and wrap a thread base up and down the post to stiffen it.
  3. Dub a slim, tapered rusty-brown body from the bend up to the post.
  4. Tie in the hackle at the base of the post and wind 4-5 parachute turns horizontally around the post, working top to bottom, then tie off against the shank.
  5. Dub a touch over the thread wraps to finish the thorax, whip finish behind the eye, and add a drop of cement to the head only.
  6. Trim the post to about one hook gap tall for visibility.
