Reference Recipe

  • Hook long-shank streamer/salmon hook, #2-1/0
  • Thread red 3/0 or 6/0

Materials

  • Synthetic hair (FisHair) or bucktail (wing) Green over white, or red/white (sparse clump)
  • Flashabou or Krystal Flash Pearl/silver flashabou (few strands)
  • Flat tinsel or thread (body) Silver or red flat tinsel thread (short length (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Start red thread behind the eye and lay a base back to a point above the barb.
  2. If bodied, wrap a thin flat silver tinsel body forward and back and tie off behind the eye; otherwise keep it a bare bright thread body.
  3. Tie in a sparse under-clump of white synthetic hair or bucktail on top, extending one-and-a-half to two shank lengths past the bend.
  4. Add a few strands of pearl flash the same length.
  5. Tie a sparser over-clump of green (or red) hair on top of the white for a two-tone baitfish profile.
  6. Build a smooth red thread head, whip finish, and coat the head with cement or UV resin.
