Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL-4XL curved nymph hook, #4-10
  • Thread black or brown 6/0

Materials

  • Variegated chenille (body) Black, brown, or coffee-black (1 length)
  • Round rubber legs Barred rubber legs (3 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base along the full shank of the long curved hook.
  2. Tie in a splayed pair of rubber legs as tails at the bend, half a shank long.
  3. Bind in the variegated chenille at the bend and run the thread forward to the eye.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns, figure-8ing a pair of rubber legs in at the one-third and two-thirds marks so three sets flare to the sides.
  5. Finish the chenille behind the eye and tie off; leave the front legs forward as antennae and trim all legs to about a shank length.
  6. Form a small thread head, whip finish, and cement.
