Rubber Legs Stonefly

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL-4XL curved nymph hook, #4-10
  • Thread brown or black 6/0

Materials

  • Variegated chenille (body) Brown/black (coffee-black) (1 length)
  • Round rubber legs Barred brown/black rubber legs (3 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base along the full shank of the long curved hook.
  2. At the bend tie in a pair of rubber legs splayed as tails, half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the variegated chenille at the bend, then wind the thread forward to the eye.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns, pausing at the one-third and two-thirds marks to figure-8 in a pair of rubber legs at each spot so three sets stand out to the sides.
  5. Continue the chenille to just behind the eye and tie off; leave the front leg pair pointing forward as antennae and trim all legs to about one shank length.
  6. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and cement.
