RS2 Trico Black

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry/nymph hook, #20-24
  • Thread black 10/0 or 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibetts (tails) White or light dun microfibetts (2 fibers)
  • Thread (abdomen) Black thread (trace)
  • CDC or Antron (wing) White/light dun cdc feathers (small clump)
  • Superfine dubbing (thorax) Black dubbing (trace)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a fine black thread base to the bend on the tiny hook and tie in two split light Microfibett tails one shank length long.
  2. Build a slim black thread abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in a short white CDC or Antron wing upright at the 60% mark, no taller than one hook gap.
  4. Dub a tiny, sparse black thorax around the wing base; use barely any dubbing at this size.
  5. Whip finish behind the eye and add the smallest touch of cement to the head only.
