Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard nymph hook, #16-22
  • Thread gray 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibetts (tails) Dun microfibetts (2 fibers)
  • Pearl tinsel or Flashabou (flashback) Pearl flashabou (1-2 strands)
  • Thread (abdomen) Gray thread (trace)
  • CDC or Antron (wing) Gray cdc or antron (small clump)
  • Superfine dubbing (thorax) Gray superfine dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base to the bend and tie in two split dun Microfibett tails one shank length long.
  2. Tie in a strand or two of pearl flash at the bend, leaving it pointing back for now.
  3. Wind a slim thread abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Tie in a short gray CDC or Antron wing at the 60% mark, one hook gap tall.
  5. Dub a sparse gray thorax, then pull the pearl flash forward over the top as a flashback and tie it down behind the eye; trim.
  6. Whip finish and add a drop of cement.
