RS2 Emerger

Dry Fly · Emerger · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry/emerger hook, #18-24
  • Thread gray 8/0

Materials

  • Antron or Z-lon (trailing shuck) Amber/gray antron or z lon (small tuft)
  • Thread (abdomen) Gray thread (trace)
  • CDC (wing) Natural dun cdc feather (small clump of tips)
  • Superfine dubbing (thorax) Gray superfine dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base to the bend and tie in a short, sparse tuft of Antron at the bend as a trailing shuck, half a shank long.
  2. Build a slim, tapered thread abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in a small clump of CDC tips upright and slightly forward at the 60% mark, one hook gap tall.
  4. Dub a sparse gray thorax around and in front of the CDC wing, seating it upright.
  5. Whip finish behind the eye; leave it uncemented so the CDC and shuck stay in the film.
