  • Thread gray 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibetts (tails) Dun microfibetts (2 fibers)
  • Fine dubbing or thread (abdomen) Gray superfine dubbing (trace)
  • CDC or Antron (wing) Gray/dun cdc or antron (small clump)
  • Superfine dubbing (thorax) Gray superfine dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a smooth thread base from behind the eye back to the bend.
  2. Tie in two dun Microfibetts at the bend and split them wide with a tiny thread bump so they form a V one shank length long.
  3. Build a slim, tapered abdomen of thread or a trace of gray dubbing forward to the 60% mark.
  4. At the 60% mark tie in a short clump of gray CDC or Antron pointing up and slightly back, no longer than one hook gap, as the wing.
  5. Dub a sparse gray thorax around the base of the wing and up to one eye-length behind the eye; keep it lean.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and add a tiny drop of cement.
