RS 2 Foamback

Nymph · Midge · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard nymph/dry hook, #16-22
  • Thread gray 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibetts (tails) Dun microfibetts (2 fibers)
  • Superfine dubbing (thorax) Gray superfine dubbing (pinch)
  • Thin foam strip (back) Gray foam (narrow strip)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a smooth thread base from behind the eye to the bend.
  2. Tie in two dun Microfibetts at the bend and split them wide with a tiny thread bump so they cock apart, one shank length long.
  3. Bind a narrow gray foam strip in at the 60% mark, leaving it pointing back over the body for now.
  4. Wind thread forward and back to build a slim, slightly tapered abdomen, then stop at the 60% mark.
  5. Dub a sparse gray thorax up to one eye-length behind the eye; use half the dubbing you think.
  6. Pull the foam strip forward over the thorax as a shiny wing case/back, tie it down behind the eye, and trim the excess.
  7. Whip finish and add a tiny drop of cement.
