  • Hook barbless jig/competition nymph hook, #14-18

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold or copper slotted tungsten bead (2.8-3.8mm)
  • Coq de Leon fibers (tail) Pardo (speckled brown) (small clump)
  • Pheasant tail fibers (body) Natural pheasant tail fibers (3-4 fibers)
  • Fine flat tinsel or thread (rib/underbody) Pearl mylar tinsel (short length)
  • Hot-spot thread or thin dubbing (collar) Fluorescent orange hot spot thread or dubbing (trace)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye and start black thread behind it, running a smooth base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short, sparse pardo Coq de Leon tail, three-quarters of a shank long.
  3. Bind in 3-4 pheasant tail fibers by the tips and wrap them forward as a slim, tapered body to just short of the bead; the perdigon must stay thin and heavy so it dives fast.
  4. Add a trace of fluorescent orange thread or dubbing as a narrow hot-spot collar right behind the bead.
  5. Whip finish and clip the thread.
  6. Coat the entire body and collar with a thin, even layer of UV resin, rotate to keep it symmetrical, and cure; the varnish shell is what makes it cast and sink like a stone.
